behavior specialist, trainer & Breeder
Rebecca Corso is an ethical and highly knowledgeable expert on canine behavior. Gravitas Golden Retrievers was founded due to what Rebecca feels is a LACK of reputable and ethical breeders. So many dog trainers/behavior consultants wish that more of us would breed dogs because we are exactly the people who should be breeding dogs. Rebecca sees day in and day out what happens when genetics and upbringing have not been prioritized… the behavioral and health implications can be devastating.
Rebecca has a wealth of knowledge about dogs and animal training. She has trained a variety of animals ranging from chickens to dogs, rhinos to tigers, and many species in between. Rebecca has a Masters degree in Zoology and has spent the last twenty years building a solid foundation in animal training based on a combination of education, science and hands-on experience. She is also a professional member of several well respected organizations and frequently attends conferences and seminars to stay current in the field of animal training. Rebecca’s knowledge has been independently tested and passed rigorous standards to achieve certifications as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a Certified Behavior Consultant Canine (CBCC-KA). Rebecca is also a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.
Rebecca also founded Dogs for Conservation, a former non-profit organization that trains detection dogs to sniff out endangered species to help scientists study them. Rebecca’s background as a wildlife biologist and animal trainer has given her a unique ability to succeed in a very unusual industry. Rebecca and her husband Matthew run Your Pro Dog Trainer & California Service Dog Academy together as a family affair along with their 3 children!
All of the work we do with dogs can be traced almost entirely to one very inspirational dog. Riley. I could write pages and pages about Riley, but in a nutshell, he was truly the perfect dog. He was gentle, kind, tolerant and about as bombproof of a dog I have still ever seen to this day. He started a lifelong passion for dogs, dog training, and of course… Golden Retrievers. Riley was born in South Africa, and lived there with me for many years. He moved wherever I went, and that took him from Africa to Texas, New Mexico, Nevada and California… never far from my side.
We lost Riley after almost 13 years together. I still think of him daily, but I see him in our work with Goldens and Service Dogs and know he is the reason for all the amazing things we do with dogs now.
